Welcome to Lewes Lighthouse Sand Dollar

This unique welcome sign in Lewes on Kings Highway is a replica of the Delaware Breakwater East End Lighthouse in the Delaware Bay.

In the early 1800s, mariners pleaded for a breakwater to be constructed just inside Cape Henlopen, on the southern side of the bay, as a refuge from rough seas. This iron structure, which is 56 feet tall, was completed on October 2, 1885 and marks the east end of the breakwater stone structure.

Sand Dollars measure between 3.5" and 4" in diameter.
